Elevating the Moral Voice of Faith Communities
Historically, our clergy have been behind massive changes in the US. Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesse Jackson were instrumental in driving the Civil Rights Movement. We are at such a moment today, and need our clergy to help with this fight.
Our immigrant communities are being terrorized. Families are being torn apart. American citizens, legal immigrants and immigrants that have been on a path to staying here legally, are being deported, often after being violently detained.
Over 71% of those being held by ICE have NO CRIMINAL RECORD! Even those who have past convictions, have already paid their debt to society. (1)
The goal is to put an end to the inhumane Trump policies and programs, by ending immigration detention. The $165 billion dollars (2) recently allocated to DHS are being used for:
building even more ICE concentration camps - $45 billion (3)
funding bonuses for ICE vigilantes to meet quotas - $10k per agent for the next 4 years (3)
hiring even more ICE agents - $4.1 billion (3)
We are organizing a group of interfaith clergy to lead peaceful protests in a wave across the country; a wave so big that it cannot be ignored.
This campaign seeks to elevate the moral voice of faith communities in the fight for immigrant justice. The events will draw upon the collective spiritual and ethical teachings across multiple faith traditions, with a focus on human dignity, compassion, and justice for all people. The culmination of these rallies and marches will be a meeting with the administration in Washington DC.
Dates are TBD
Open Participation: All individuals are welcome to participate, with a special invitation extended to people of faith from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds.
Clergy Leadership: The visible leadership of each event will be comprised of clergy and religious leaders. This approach aims to leverage their moral authority and media visibility to draw national attention to the cause.
Faith Garments and Symbols: Clergy and faith leaders are encouraged to wear recognizable symbols or attire representing their religious office or tradition during the marches to clearly identify their leadership roles.
As gatherings are organized, they will be listed here.
